Ohlavan nació con el fin de mantener informados a amigos y familiares sobre nuestras andanzas por Centro y Norteamérica. Tras mucho pensar y darle vueltas, dimos con EL nombre. Oh la van. El mismo es un pequeño guiño a un viejo dicho francés «Oh la vache» una manera de expresar sorpresa (Oh la vaca, literalmente).
Ohlavan lo forman dos personas, Melissa y Ekain, y una perrita, Tikla.
Melissa nació en Haití en 1993, en el seno de una familia con orígenes palestino y chileno. No tuvo una infancia fácil, y es que cuando a penas tenía un año le diagnosticaron leucemia, enfermedad que no superaría por completo hasta siete años más tarde. Superar un cáncer a tan temprana edad hizo que desde joven tuviese claro que viviría su vida al máximo. A los 15 se mudó junto con su familia al país vecino, República Dominicana, su hogar actual. Realizó sus estudios en Francia, donde se graduó con una Maestría en Desarrollo Internacional. Sus estudios la llevaron a vivir en cuatro países distintos, entre ellos Panamá, donde conoció a Ekain.
Ekain nació en el País Vasco en 1989. Desde bien pequeño le encantó viajar, algo que le inculcaron sus padres llevándole por medio mundo y por lo que él siempre se sintió muy afortunado. Así, con 18 años cogió su mochila y junto a su hermano viajó durante 8 meses dando la vuelta al mundo. Tras su paso por la universidad en Bilbao donde se licenció en Administración y Dirección de Empresas, se mudó a Panamá. Allí comenzó su carrera profesional y tras tres años en la que se convertiría en su segunda casa, conoció a Melissa.
Tikla nació en un pequeño pueblo costero de nombre homónimo de Michoacán (México), en algún momento entre marzo y abril de 2018. Vivía entre la calle y un minisuper junto con sus hermanitos y madre hasta que un día Meli y Eka la encontraron, se enamoraron de ella y con el permiso de sus dueños, se la llevaron para unirse en sus aventuras y descubrir el mundo. Desde entonces, se ha convertido en una perra muy feliz, muy amigable y muy juguetona que mantiene a sus padres ocupados.
Ohlavan was born with the purpose of keeping our friends and family informed of our wanderings in Central and North America. After countless brainstorming sessions, we found THE name. Oh la van. The latter is a reference to an old French saying, “Oh la vache”, a term used to express surprise (Oh the cow, literally).
Ohlavan is made up of two people, Melissa and Ekain, and one dog, Tikla.
Melissa was born in Haiti in 1993, within a family of Palestinian and Chilean origins. She did not have the easiest childhood. When she was only a year old, she was diagnosed with leukemia, a disease that only went away completely seven years later. Overcoming a cancer at such a young age explains why she lives her life with such strong sense of urgency to live to the fullest. At 15 she moved with her family to the neighbouring country, the Dominican Republic, that she now calls home. She completed her studies in France, where she graduated with a Masters in International Development. Her studies led her to live in four different countries, including Panama, where she met Ekain.
Ekain was born in the Basque Country in 1989. Ever since he was a little boy he loved to travel, something that his parents instilled in him by taking him halfway around the globe and for which he has always felt very fortunate. So, at 18 years old he took his backpack and along with his brother traveled for 8 months around the world. After studying in Bilbao where he graduated with a Bachelor’s degree in Administration and Management, he moved to Panama where he began his professional career. After three years in the country that became his second home, he met Melissa.
Tikla was born in a small town of the same name in Michoacán, Mexico, some time between March and April 2018. She lived between the street and a small supermarket with her brothers and her mother until Meli and Eka found her one day, fell in love with her and with her owner’s permission, welcomed her into their adventure and discover the world. Since then, she’s become such a happy dog, very friendly and very playful that keeps her parents busy.
